          Baltemore
       Whereas we have caused mandamus out of our high Court of Chancery to Issue forth
Locus sigilli  to William Stevens and John Winder of our County of Somersett Gent to bee directed
       requireing them that by the Oath of Twelve good and Lawfull men of the County aforesaid
       to enquire what Lands David Williams of the said County who w.th his wife were murdered
       by the Indians dyed seized of at the time of his death as of the Fee in the County aforesaid
       and Who is his next heire and what age y.e heire is &c If therefore upon the recovery
       of the Inquisition it shall appeare that there is noe heire Liveing and That the Land
       is thereupon Escheated to us Know y.e out of our speciall Grace and favour to John
       Covington Brother to the said William's wife wee have purposed and determined
       and doe fully resolve To Confirme the said Williams's Land unto him the s.d Covington
       and his heires Therefore wee doe hereby Will and require The Hono.ble William Calvert
       Esq.r Secretary of our said province upon retourne of the Inquisition aforesaid If
       it shall appeare That there is noe heire as aforesaid but That the Land is Escheated as
       aforesaid Then That hee draw Pattent for the Land To John Covington and his heires
       accordingly Given under our hand and seale at Armes The nineteenth day of
       March in The fourth yeare of our Dominion &c.a Annoq Domini 1678

       M.r Keneline Cheseldyne As one of the Attornyes of the provinciall Court There are
       to impower You to appeare for mee at the suite of John Hambton in an accon of Debt
       of Forty Thousand pounds of Tobacco And alsoe at y.e suite of Samuell Dobson in the
       Like accon of Debt for Forty Thousand pounds of Tobacco more And to plead to y.e same
       as to y.e best of your Judgement and skill you thinke fitt to Confesse Judgment or lett
       the same goe by ineduit or any other wayes as you In your Judgment y.to thinke
       best and for your soe doeing This shall bee your Warr.t as Witnesse my hand &
       Seale This 2.d day of June 1679

       Memorandum that on the fifth of March in the fourth yeare of the Dominion of
       Charles Lord Baltemore &c Annoq Domini 1678 Thomas Trueman Richard Ladd and Charles
       Butler Gent presented unto Court These papers Following Viz

       Charles absolute Lord and proprietary of the provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord
       Baron of Baron of Baltemore &c To Thomas Trueman Esqr Richard Ladd Gent and Charles
       Boteler Gent Greeting Whereas Henry Jowles Late of Calvert County Gent and Sybell his wife
       Execu.ix of the Last will and Testament of William Groome of Calvert County deceased Were by
       Writt out of our provinciall Court sumoned to answer unto Job Nutt of a plea that they render
       unto him six hundred pounds sterling w.ch from him the unjustly deteyne And Whereas
       the said Henry and Sybell have exhibited theire bill of Complaint in our high Court of Chancery
       to bee relieved against the aforesaid Accon of the said Job Nutt And forasmuch as y.e Attornyes
       on behalf of the parties aforesaid To Witt Christopher Rousby Gent Attorny for the said
       Job Nutt and Robert Carvile Gent Attorney of the said Henry Jowles and Sybell his
       wife for preventing the tedious Depending of the suites aforesaid and for saveing the Extraordinary
       great Charge which the attendance and prosecucon of the premisses in our Courts afores.d
       must Necessarily occasion and the rather because of the great Remotenesse of the said Job Nutt
       being an Inhabbitant within the Kingdome of England and aged and Uncapable of takeing
       Soe Long a Voyage as to Come to this province to answer the said bill have therefore made it
       theire Joynt speciall and Earnest request to us to Nominate authorise and appoint such persons
       as to us should seeme meet to hear examine and adjudge of the Whole matter indifference as afores.d
       between the parties aforesaid and the said Attornyes have in open Court before us on behalf of theire
       s.d respective Agents Mutually to stand to abide and bee Concluded by the Judgment and
