AN ACT concerning
Montgomery County — Deputy Sheriffs
MC 30-75
FOR the purpose of providing that the annual allowance to
Montgomery County Deputy Sheriffs for motor vehicle
expenses need not be paid to Deputies whose
assignment does not require the use of a motor
vehicle for duty purposes and correcting certain
punctuation.
BY repealing and re—enacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 2-309(q) (3) of Article - Courts
and Judicial Proceedings, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1974 Volume and 1974 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

(q) Montgomery County.
(3) The Sheriff shall fix the compensation of,
and may discharge, the deputy sheriffs and other
employees appointed, subject to budget limitations and
the regulations of the Montgomery County Personnel Board.
Personnel appointed by the Sheriff[,] shall be considered
for all purposes as Montgomery County merit system
employees and subject to all rules and regulations of the
Personnel Board of Montgomery County. In addition, each
deputy sheriff[,] shall be paid by the County Council an
annual sum of $2,000 in lieu of all expenses for
traveling, transportation, or use of motor vehicles, and
in lieu -of amounts previously allowed to deputy sheriffs
as fees or expenses. THE SHERIFF MAY SUSPEND THESE
PAYMENTS TO ANY DEPUTY SHERIFF WHILE HE IS ASSIGNED FOR A
PERIOD OF MORE THAN TWO WEEKS TO DUTIES WHICH BY THEIR
NATURE DO NOT REQUIRE THE USE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1975.
