AN ACT to amend Chapter 27, title "Human Relations
and Civil Liberties", of the Montgomery County Code 1972,
by amending Section 27—6 thereof, title "Duties
generally", to add to the powers and duties of the
Commission on Human Relations the responsibility to
promote equal rights and opportunities for all persons
regardless of sex or marital status and to study and
investigate conditions which may result in discrimination
on the basis of sex or marital status; by amending
Section 27-13 thereof, title "Unlawful practices," to
provide that it shall be an unlawful practice for any
person, real estate broker or real estate salesperson to
discriminate in housing matters on the basis of sea or
marital status; to prohibit any lending institution from
discriminating on the basis of sex or marital states in
leading money, guaranteeing leans, accepting deeds of
trust or mortgages, fixing rates and conditions of such
transactions in connection with housing; by amending
Section 27-14 thereof, title "Posting of notices; reports
to be filed," to require that fair housing notices posted
by real estate brokers specify that it shall be unlawful
to deny housing to or otherwise to discriminate against
persons on the basis of sex or marital status.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL FOR MONTGOMERY
COUNTY, MARYLAND, that -

SECTION 1. Section 27-6, title "Duties generally",
of Chapter 27, title "Human Relations and Civil
Liberties", of the Montgomery County Code 1972, is hereby
amended to read as follows:

Sec. 27—6. Duties generally.

(a) The commission on human relations shall have
the power and it shall be its duty:

(1) To research, assemble, analyze and
disseminate pertinent data and educational materials
relating to activities and programs which will assist in
the elimination of prejudice, intolerance, bigotry and
discrimination, and to institute and conduct educational
and other programs, meetings and conferences to promote
equal rights and opportunities of all persons regardless
of their race, color, religious creed, ancestry, national
