SHARPSBURG
amended by Charter Amendment and Resolution in 1972, to
provide for a municipal election every two (2) years
beginning on the third (3rd) Tuesday in November A.D.,
1974, and on the third (3rd) Tuesday in November every
two (2) years thereafter for the purpose of electing
officers of the said Corporation and to provide for the
election of a Mayor and two (2) Councilmen on the third
(3rd) Tuesday in November A.D., 1974, whose term of
office shall be for two (2) years; and also to provide
for election of a Vice—Mayor and three (3) Councilmen on
the third (3rd) Tuesday in November A.D. , 1974, and every
four (4) years thereafter, whose term of office shall be
for four (4) years, or until their successors are duly
qualified; and for the election of a Mayor and two (2)
Councilmen on the third (3rd) Tuesday in November A.D.,
1976, and every four (4) years thereafter, whose term of
office shall be for four (4) years, or until their
successors are duly qualified, in accordance with the
provisions of said Article 11—E of the Constitution of
Maryland and Article 23—A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland, (1957 Edition).
SECTION 1. BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council
of Sharpsburg that Section 29—4 of the Charter of the
Mayor and Council of Sharpsburg as set forth in Article
22 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Washington County
(1957 Edition) as said Section was enacted by Chapter 294
of the Laws of Maryland (1941), and as amended by Charter
Amendment and Resolution in 1972 be and the same is
hereby amended by adding to said original Section that
part thereof which is hereinafter typed in capital
letters and by deleting therefrom that part which is
enclosed with double parentheses, which Section reads as
follows:
All citizens of the State of Maryland, entitled to
right of franchise therein and who have resided within
the corporate limits of the town of Sharpsburg thirty
(30) days next preceding an election shall be entitled to
vote at said election and all subsequent elections. They
also shall be qualified to hold office, either elective
or appointive provided they have so resided in said Town
five (5) years previous to any election. [[The said
voters shall on the third (3rd) Tuesday in November A.D.,
1972, and upon the same day in every alternate year
thereafter, elect by ballot the citizen for Mayor and one
citizen for Vice—Mayor of said Town, both of whom shall
be citizens of the United States and five (5) year
residents of said Town next preceding the election, and
at least twenty—five (25) years of age; they shall take
the oath of office as hereinafter prescribed for Town
officers, and remain in office until their successors are
elected and qualified.]] ON THE THIRD (3RD) TUESDAY OF
NOVEMBER A.D., 1974, AND ON THE THIRD (3RD) TUESDAY OF
