MUNICIPAL CHARTERS
NOVEMBER EVERY TWO (2) YEARS THEREAFTER, AN ELECTION
SHALL BE HELD FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING OFFICERS OF THE
SAID CORPORATION. AT THE ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE
THIRD (3RD) TUESDAY IN NOVEMBER A.D., 1974, THERE SHALL
BE ELECTED A MAYOR AND TWO (2) COUNCILMEN, WHOSE TERM OF
OFFICE SHALL BE FOR TWO (2) YEARS OR UNTIL THEIR
SUCCESSORS ARE DULY QUALIFIED; AND THERE SHALL ALSO BE
ELECTED A VICE-MAYOR AND THREE (3) COUNCILMEN AT THE
ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE THIRD (3RD) TUESDAY IN
NOVEMBER A.D., 1974, WHOSE TERM OF OFFICE SHALL BE FOR
FOUR (4) YEARS OR UNTIL THEIR SUCCESSORS ARE DULY
QUALIFIED; AND AT THE ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE THIRD
(3RD) TUESDAY IN NOVEMBER A.D., 1976 AND EVERY FOUR (4)
YEARS THEREAFTER, THERE SHALL BE ELECTED A MAYOR AND TWO
(2) COUNCILMEN, WHOSE TERM OF OFFICE SHALL BE FOR FOUR
(4) YEARS OR UNTIL THEIR SUCCESSORS ARE DULY QUALIFIED;
ALL OF THE AFOREMENTIONED MUNICIPAL OFFICERS SHALL BE
CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES AND SHALL HAVE RESIDED IN
THE TOWN FOR FIVE (5) YEARS PRECEDING THE ELECTION AND
SHALL ALSO BE AT LEAST TWENTY-FIVE (25) YEARS OF AGE AND
THEY SHALL TAKE THE OATH OF OFFICE AS HEREINAFTER
PRESCRIBED FOR TOWN OFFICERS.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the date
of adoption of this Resolution is the 26th day of April,
1974, and the amendment of the Charter of Sharpsburg
hereby enacted shall become effective the 14th day of
June, 1974, unless a proper petition for a referendum
hereon shall be filed, as permitted by law, provided a
clear and exact copy of this Resolution shall be
continuously posted on the bulletin board in the Town
Hall until the 4th day of June, 1974, and provided
further that a copy of the title of this Resolution shall
be published in the Morning Herald and the Daily Mail,
newspapers of general circulation of Sharpsburg, or in
any other newspaper of such general circulation, once in
each of the weeks of April 27th, May 4th, May 11th, and
May 17th, 1974.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the
Mayor is hereby specifically enjoined to carry out the
provisions of Section 2 hereof and, as evidence of said
compliance, the Mayor shall cause to be affixed to the
minutes of this meeting appropriate certifications of
publication of the newspaper or newspapers in which the
title of this Resolution shall have been published and
shall declare the Charter Amendment hereby enacted to be
effective by affixing his signature hereto in the space
provided on the effective date thereof.
SECTION 4. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT as soon
as the Charter Amendment hereby enacted shall become
effective, either as herein provided or following a
referendum; the Mayor shall send separately by registered
