MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

289. Oath of office.

Any person elected as Mayor or Councilman shall,
before he enters upon the discharge of his office make
oath before a [Justice of the Peace] JUDGE OF THE
DISTRICT COURT OR Notary Public of Dorchester County
"that he will diligently and faithfully, without favor,
partiality or prejudice, perform the duties of such Mayor
or Councilman of said town", and a certificate showing
the taking of said oath shall be [returned forthwith by
the said Justice of the Peace or Notary Public as the
case may be and] filed and recorded among the proceedings
of the said Mayor and Council of Hurlock.

291. Mayor; qualifications, compensation.

No person shall be elected as Mayor of said town
unless he [shall have] HAS been a resident of [said] THE
town for at least one year next prior to his election
[and unless he shall have been the owner of property,
assessed for at least one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or
more by the town assessment of property, situated within
the corporate limits of said town for at least one year
prior to his election, and unless all taxes due thereon
are paid prior to the date of the election, and in the
event that]. IF the Mayor of [said] THE town [shall
remove] REMOVES from the corporate limits thereon, [then]
the [said] office of Mayor shall forthwith become vacant,
and his successor shall be duly appointed as is provided
by this subtitle. The Mayor shall receive the annual
salary of Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00) and the sum of
[four dollars ($4.00)] TEN DOLLARS ($10.00) per diem for
each regular meeting of the Mayor and Council of Hurlock
attended, but shall receive no compensation for his
attendance at any special meeting.

292. Councilmen; qualifications, compensation.

No person shall be elected as Councilman of said
town unless he shall have been a resident of said town
for at least one year prior to his election [, and unless
he shall have been the owner of property, assessed for at
least one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or more by the
town assessment of property, situated within the
corporate limits of said town for at least one year prior
to his election, and unless all taxes due thereon are
paid prior to the date of the election and in the event
that] IF A Councilman of [said] THE town [shall remove]
REMOVES from the corporate limits thereof, [then] the
[said] office of Councilman shall forthwith become
vacant, and his successor shall be duly appointed as is
provided by this subtitle. Each Councilman shall receive
the annual salary of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) and
the sum of [three dollars ($3.00)] TEN DOLLARS ($10.00)
