MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

hereby repealed and re—enacted, with amendments; and that
Sections 299, 300, 305, 306, [[307,]] 316, 317, 318, and
319 be and they are hereby repealed in the Charter of the
Town of Hurlock as codified in the Code of Public Local
Laws of Dorchester County, 1961 Edition, as amended,
being Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland, title "Dorchester County," subtitle "Hurlock,"
and all to read as follows:

285.

(a)     [The Mayor and City Councilmen of Hurlock
elected to those offices in the regular election held in
the month of May, 1960, shall continue to serve in such
positions until following the elections held for such
positions, respectively, in the month of December, 1961.]
On the first Saturday in the month of December, 1961, and
on the first Saturday in the month of December every
other year thereafter, an election shall be held between
the hours of 12 o'clock noon and 6:00 p.m., for the
election of a Mayor and/or Councilman or Councilmen, as
the case may be, whose terms then are about to expire.
At the election held in the month of December, 1961,
there shall be elected a Mayor and two Councilmen. The
Mayor shall be elected for a term of two (2) years, and
at the election every two (2) years thereafter there
shall be an election for the office of Mayor. The
Councilman shall be elected for terms of four (4) years,
except that of the Councilmen elected in the month of
December, 1961, one shall serve for four (4) years and
one shall serve for two years. The two Councilmen
elected in December, 1961, shall determine by lot which
shall serve for four (4) years and which shall serve for
two (2) years. Thereafter in the month of December every
other year, a Councilman shall be elected to fill the
office then about to expire.

(b)     For every such election in the Town of
Hurlock, there shall be a notice printed in some
newspaper in general circulation in the Town [of
Hurlock], or posted in three (3) conspicuous places in
the Town [of Hurlock], GIVING NOTICE OF the names of all
the candidates as they are to appear upon the official
ballot or voting machine. The ballots and/or voting
machines shall show the name of each candidate nominated
for elective office in accordance with the provisions of
this charter, arranged in alphabetical order by office
with no party designation of any kind, and [said] THE
ballot and/or voting machine shall provide sufficient
space wherein a voter may insert in writing the name or
names of a candidate or candidates for Mayor and/or
Councilman, if he so desires, which name or names may not
already be printed en the ballot or voting machine label.
