MUNICIPAL CHARTERS
Aberdeen may, in their sole discretion, retire any
employee of the Town of Aberdeen reaching the age of
sixty—five (65) years and having been in continuous
employment of the Town for twenty (20) years immediately
prior thereto and pay such employee a monthly pension of
not more than two hundred dollars ($200.00) for the
remaining term of his life and to provide for the payment
of such pension in the annual tax levy.]
(B) THE COMMISSIONERS OF ABERDEEN MAY, IN THEIR
SOLE DISCRETION, RETIRE ANY EMPLOYEE OF THE TOWN, WHO HAS
REACHED THE AGE OF SIXTY-FIVE (65) YEARS WITH A RECORD OF
TWENTY (20) OR MORE YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT WITH THE TOWN.
AFTER TWENTY (20) YEARS OF SERVICE, UPON A DETERMINATION
BY THE COMMISSIONERS THAT AN EMPLOYEE IS SUFFERING FROM A
DISABILITY RENDERING HIM OR HER INCAPABLE OF PERFORMING A
MUNICIPAL SERVICE REASONABLY RELATED TO HIS OR HER
CAPABILITY, THE COMMISSIONERS MAY RETIRE THE EMPLOYEE
WITHOUT REGARD TO AGE. IN EACH INSTANCE OF RETIREMENT
THE MAXIMUM MONTHLY PENSION SHALL BE TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS
($200.00) FOR THE REMAINING TERM OF HIS LIFE.
SECTION 2. And Be it Further Resolved, Ordained,
and Enacted that this Ordinance shall become effective
fifty (50) days from the date of the enactment hereof on
the 12th day of August 1974, and that a copy of this
Ordinance be published in at least one weekly newspaper
of general circulation not less than four (4) times at
weekly intervals within the period of at least forty (40)
days after the adoption of this Resolution, subject to
petition for referendum as provided by law.
