OFFICE ON AGING
WHEREAS, The problems of the aged in Maryland is a
critical area of concern to the State; and
WHEREAS, The State, through its several departments and
agencies, has assumed responsibility for providing
various essential services to the aged; and
WHEREAS, In order to promote greater efficiency, there
exists a need for a single office on aging to assess
and evaluate the programs of these departments and
agencies, to develop methods and procedures for
coordinating existing programs and services for the
aged, and to serve as liaison among the departments
and agencies of the State, the Commission on Aging,
and the Governor.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARVIN MANDEL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE
OF MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN HE
BY ARTICLE II, SECTION 24 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF
MARYLAND, AND BY ARTICLE 41, SECTION 15C OF THE
ANNOTATED CODE OF MARYLAND, HEREBY PROMULGATE THE
FOLLOWING ORDER, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:
1. The office on Aging is created as part of the
Executive Department of State Government. The
Office shall have assistants, consultants, and
employees as provided in the State budget.
The head of the Office is the Director on
Aging, who shall be appointed by and serve at
the pleasure of the Governor and be directly
responsible to him. The Director shall be
responsible for the operation of the Office
and shall establish guidelines and procedures
to promote the orderly and efficient
administration of the Office. He shall
receive the salary provided in the State
budget.
2. The Commission on Aging is continued. In
addition to the powers and duties assigned to
the Commission by law, the Commission shall
counsel and advise the Director on all matters
assigned to the Office.
3. The Office on Aging is the principal State
agency responsible for the development of
services for the aged. For these purposes,
the Office shall:
