Attorney General has advised me that Senate Bill 1012's

addition to Frederick County to the relatively broad

exemption provisions of Section 255 would make Senate
Bill 973 largely superfluous.

For this reason, I have decided to veto Senate Bill
973.

Senate Bill No. 1017 - St. Mary's County; Education
Transportation Board

AN ACT concerning

St. Mary's County — Education Transportation Board

FOR the purpose of establishing an appointed Education
Transportation Board for St. Mary's County which
shall determine which school children are entitled
to free transportation to and from school due to
hazardous conditions or individual hardships.

Dear Mr. President;

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill
1017.

This bill creates a five member Education
Transportation Board of St. Mary's County, to be composed
of (1) a person appointed by the County Superintendent of
Schools, (2) a deputy sheriff of St. Mary's County, (3) a
person appointed by the Board of County Commissioners,
and (4) two persons appointed by the County School Board.
It then provides that "where hazardous conditions,
individual hardships, or otherwise dangerous conditions
exist," this new Board "shall determine which school
children in the county are entitled to free
