MARVIN MANDEL, Governor
3927
The current economic recession has furthermore shown
that economy in government is necessary to preserve
essential services for the people.
Therefore, the members of the General Assembly of
Maryland believe that the State of Maryland can both
preserve the use of petroleum and save the State of
Maryland money by reusing motor crank case oil that is
drained from Maryland State automobiles.
Although when oil is drained from the crank case of
automotive vehicles, it is dirty, but can still be used
for certain types of fuel, this practice is not
environmentally sound because of the pollutants that are
released. However, a simple re—refining process enables
the oil to once again be used as a lubricant or as a fuel
for certain industrial purposes.
The State of Maryland should establish a procedure
whereby all the used motor crank case oil that is drained
from Maryland automobile vehicles to be collected and
sent to a re—refining processor. This would save the
State of Maryland a substantial sum of money and should
be undertaken immediately; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the Department of General Services and every other
executive department of the State of Maryland and every
Maryland governmental entity that uses automotive
vehicles be requested to implement a plan to collect used
motor vehicle oil and have that oil re—refined for
further use; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Honorable Marvin Mandel, Governor of Maryland, and to
the Honorable George Lewis, Secretary of the Department
of General Services.
