A House Joint Resolution concerning
Multiflora Rose
FOR the purpose of requesting the Secretary of the State
Department of Agriculture to declare Rosa
Multiflora, commonly known as Multiflora Roses, a
noxious weed and to prohibit certain sales thereof.
The members of the General Assembly of Maryland have
become aware that Rosa Multiflora, commonly known as
Multiflora Roses, has become a public and common nuisance
in the State of Maryland.
This noxious weed is destroying and inhibiting the
growth of many desirable plant species and must be
controlled.
The Secretary should prohibit the sale of seeds of
Rosa Multiflora, and take all steps to prevent its
propagation. In this manner, this noxious weed will be
adequately controlled; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That;
this Body requests the Secretary of the State Department
of Agriculture to declare Rosa Multiflora, commonly known
as Multiflora Roses, a noxious weed and to prohibit the
sale of its seeds; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the State Department
of Agriculture be requested to make investigations,
studies, and determinations in order, to ascertain the
extent of growth and infestation of Multiflora Roses and
the effect of the species on agricultural production; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Secretary of the State Department of Agriculture,
Parole Plaza Shopping Center, Annapolis, Maryland 21401.
