A House Joint Resolution concerning

Maryland National Guard

FOR the purpose of requesting that the Governor appoint a
committee to study the benefits available to certain
National Guardsmen, and report to the 1976 General
Assembly.

WHEREAS, The Maryland National Guard has served the
State and Country in several wars and in many disasters;
and

WHEREAS, Under the voluntary Army concept, service
in the Guard is completely voluntary; and

WHEREAS, Certain benefits, such as PX privileges and
$20,000 life insurance, have been offered to Guardsmen by
the United States Congress; and

WHEREAS, Various States supplement these privileges
by giving additional State privileges to their Guardsmen;
and

WHEREAS, Such privileges enhance the morale of the
Guard and encourage young men to join the Guard; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the Governor be requested to appoint a committee of three
members of the House of Delegates and three members of
the Senate to study benefits and privileges available to
the Guardsmen in other States and to come up with a
suggested program for the State of Maryland by the 1976
Legislative Session; and be it further
