A House Joint Resolution concerning
Alcoholic Beverages in Wicomico, Worcester and
Somerset Counties
FOR the purpose of forming a study committee in Wicomico,
Worcester and Somerset Counties to study the
feasibility of each county's alcoholic beverage laws
, and requiring the study committee to report its
findings to certain persons.
WHEREAS, There is currently controversy surrounding
the present scope of the alcoholic beverage laws
effective in Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset Counties.
Some of the problems include whether these counties
should change from county operated dispensaries to
privately owned liquor stores, and whether there should
be a complete revision of the various types of licenses.
WHEREAS, The questions facing these counties include
sales privileges, number of licenses in each, location of
licenses, fees for licenses, and enforcement of the
alcoholic beverage laws.
[[WHEREAS, Therefore, it is necessary that a
committee be appointed in each county to study these
matters and any other matters that the committee deems
appropriate in regard to the alcoholic beverage laws.]]
WHEREAS, For these reasons, the General Assembly
deems it necessary that a comprehensive study be made of
the alcoholic beverage laws applicable within Wicomico,
Worcester and Somerset Counties; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That a
committee be appointed in Wicomico, Worcester and
Somerset Counties by the resident Delegate and the
Senator from the 36th District to study the alcoholic
beverage laws in each county, and that each county's
committee consist of 11 members; and be it further
