Article 77A - Higher Education

40.

Each member of the House of Delegates may appoint,
during his term of office, two students from his
district, selected on any basis, who shall be educated
free of charge for tuition and mandatory fees at [[the
University of Maryland, any State college, St. Mary's
College, ANY PRIVATE COLLEGE, or any public community
college within the State]] ANY OF THOSE INSTITUTIONS OF
HIGHER EDUCATION IN MARYLAND WHICH ARE ACCREDITED BY THE
STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION including two-year
certificate programs offered by the institutions;
provided, however, that as an alternative to the method
provided for above, the two scholarships as set forth
may, at the discretion of the member of the House of
Delegates, be divided into equal two—year scholarships
and the Delegate may appoint four students to two—year
scholarships at one of the [[listed]] schools or may
appoint one student to a four—year scholarship and two
additional students to two—year scholarships at one of
the listed schools; or may appoint up to two part—time
students for each scholarship available; a scholarship
for a part—time student may be for a period of time not
to exceed twice the number of years for which a full—time
student is eligible; and provided further that each
part—time student shall carry at least 6 semester hours
per semester in a program of undergraduate study leading
to the granting of a degree. IK THE EVENT THAT ANY
STUDENT IS ENROLLED IN A PRIVATE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY
WITHIN THE STATE, THE GRANT WILL NOT EXCEED [[$750 PER
SEMESTER]] THE AMOUNT OF THE EQUIVALENT TUITION AND
MANDATORY FEES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1975.
