SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act

same shall take effect from the date of its passage]]

AN ACT concerning
Firefighters — Sick Leave
FOR the purpose of prohibiting leave, used as a result of
an "on the job injury", to be charged to a
firefighter's accrued sick leave for the first 12
months following such an injury.

Article 64A - Merit System
Section 37(g)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1972 Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 37(g) be and it is hereby
added to Article 64A — Merit System, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1972 Replacement Volume and 1974
Supplement) to read as follows:

37.
(G) LEAVE USED BY A FIREFIGHTER AS A RESULT OF AN
"ON THE JOB" INJURY SUSTAINED WHILE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF
DUTY SHALL NOT BE CHARGED TO THE EMPLOYEE'S ACCRUED SICK
LEAVE FOR THE FIRST 12 MONTHS FOLLOWING SUCH AN INJURY,
PROVIDED THAT THE SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF
PERSONNEL SHALL DETERMINE IF THE INJURY FOR WHICH THE
LEAVE WAS TAKEN BY THE EMPLOYEE IS AN INJURY WHICH
OCCURRED IN THE DISCHARGE OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE
