Section 534

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF

MARYLAND, That Sections 529(a), (d) , (g) , (i), (l), (r),

530(c), 533, 535, 536(a) and (d), 542, 543, 545(a) and

546 of Article 43 - Health, of the Annotated Code of

Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement) be

and they are is hereby repealed and re—enacted, with

amendments, to read as follows:

Article 43 - Health

529.

For the purpose of this subtitle, the following
words or phrases, unless the context clearly indicates
otherwise, [shall] have the meaning ascribed to them in
this sections

(a) The term "beauty culture" includes any and all
work done for compensation by any person which work is
generally and usually performed by so-called
hairdressers, cosmetologists, cosmetologists aides,
cosmeticians, wig stylists not licensed as barbers,
beauticians or beauty culturists and demonstrators of
beauty preparations or equipment, and however denominated
in so—called hairdressing and beauty shops, which work is
for the embellishment, cleanliness and beautification of
hair, such as arranging, dressing, curling, waving,
permanent waving, cleansing, cutting, singeing, arching
of eyebrows, dyeing of eyebrows and eyelashes, bleaching,
coloring, or similar work thereon and thereabout, and the
removal of superfluous hair, and the massaging,
cleansing, stimulating, exercising, or similar work upon
the scalp, face, arms or hands, by the use of mechanical
or electrical apparatus or appliances or cosmetics,
preparations, tonics, antiseptics, creams or lotions or
by any other means, and of manicuring AND PEDICURING the
nails of either sex, which enumerated practices shall be
inclusive of the term beauty culture but not in
limitation thereof. The term does not include any
individual service which cosmetologists are not licensed
to perform under this subtitle.

(d) The word "manicurist" is defined as any person
who, for compensation, engages only in the occupation of
manicuring [[AND]] OR PEDICURING the nails of any person.
