not exceeding [ten thousand dollars ($10,000) per annum.]
[[[$10,000]] $12,000 A YEAR , TO BE PAID BY THE COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS.

The deputy State's attorney and the assistant
State's [[attorney]] ATTORNEYS shall serve at the
pleasure of the State's Attorney and shall perform such
work as may be directed by the State's Attorney, or as
authorized by law, and may present cases to the grand
juries, sign indictments and criminal informations and
perform such other acts and duties in relation to the
grand juries and in the operation of the office as are
necessary and proper.

The deputy State's attorney shall devote full time
to the duties of the office and shall not engage in the
private practice of law at any time in any jurisdiction,
during the tenure of office.

THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY APPOINT A SPECIAL
INVESTIGATOR, WHO SHALL BE DIRECTLY UNDER THE SUPERVISION
OF THE STATE'S "ATTORNEY AND SHALL PERFORM SUCH WORK AS
THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY DESIGNATE FROM TIME TO TIME,
THE SALARY OF THE SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR, WHO SHALL SERVE
AT THE STATE'S ATTORNEY'S PLEASURE, SHALL BE TWELVE
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($12,000) PER YEAR. THE SPECIAL
INVESTIGATOR SHALL DEVOTE HIS FULL TIME AND ATTENTION TO
HIS DUTIES AS SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR AND SHALL NOT ENGAGE
IN OTHER EMPLOYMENT DURING THE TIME HE IS EMPLOYED AS
SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR.

The County Commissioners shall provide the
secretarial help required to handle the business of the
State's Attorney's office.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Section
24 of the Public Local Laws of Charles County being
article 9 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1969 Edition and 197 2 Supplement) be and it is hereby
repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

Article 9
24.

The resident judge of the Circuit Court of Charles
County may appoint a law clerk who shall receive an
annual compensation, which shall be fixed by the County
Commissioners after consultation with the resident judge,
not in excess of [seven thousand dollars ($7,000.00)]
