AN ACT concerning

Charles County - Sheriff's Salary

FOR the purpose of increasing the salary of the sheriff
of Charles County.

BY repealing and re—enacting, with amendments.

Annotated Code of Maryland
(1973 Volume)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 2-309 (j) of Article - Courts and
Judicial Proceedings, of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1973 Volume) be and it is hereby repealed and
re—enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

2-309.

(j) The Sheriff of Charles County shall receive a
salary of [$14,000] $18,000. The Board of Public Safety
of Charles County shall appoint the number of deputy
sheriffs it deems necessary. The books of the Sheriff
shall be audited annually, and copies of the audit
published by the County Commissioners in local
newspapers.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the salary of the Sheriff of Charles County
in office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act concerning the salary of the
Sheriff of Charles County shall take effect at the
beginning of the next following term of office.
