order to be eligible for the award.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL FOP MONTGOMERY
COUNTY, MARYLAND, that -

Sec. 1. Chapter 27, title "In General," "Subtitle
1. Fire Tax Areas," is hereby amended by adding new
Section 27—3A, title "Length of Service Award Program" to
read as follows:

27—3A. Length of Service Award Program.

There is hereby established a Length of Service
Award Program for active volunteer members of the
Montgomery County Fire/Rescue Service.

(a)    Eligibility.

Any member of the Montgomery County Fire/Rescue
Service who is certified as an active volunteer member on
August 15, 1965, or who subsequent to such date is
certified as an active volunteer member, shall be
eligible to participate in the Length of Service Award
Program.

The requirements for eligibility are:

(1)    The member must have been an active volunteer
member on August 15, 1965, or must have joined a
department in Montgomery County and become an active
member since August 15, 1965.. Any member of a
Fire/Rescue Department who, on August 15, 1965, was not
classified as an active member shall after obtaining five
years of certified active service after August 15, 1965,
be eligible to receive credit for active service
performed prior to August 15, 1965.

(2)    The member must meet the active membership
test under the procedures established herein.

(3)    Classification as an "active" member by an
individual department by—laws is not sufficient to be
eligible,

(4)    Volunteer members of the fire department of
the City of Takoma Park shall not be eligible to
participate in the program paid for from Montgomery
County tax monies until the depart merit and City Council
under valid legal authority empower the Montgomery County
Fire Board to administer the program for their members in
the same manner as for the departments within Montgomery
County.

(b)    Benefits.
