Section 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED BY THE COUNTY
COUNCIL OF HOWARD COUNTY, MARYLAND, that this Act shall
take effect sixty (60) days after its enactment.
This Bill, having been approved by the Executive and
returned to the Council, stands enacted on August 15,
1973.
Council Bill No. 41
AN ACT to enact Section 8.401 of the Howard County Code,
title "Crimes and Misdemeanors," subtitle "Firearms
Control," providing for regulation of the
discharging of firearms and of air and gas—propelled
pistols and rifles within designated areas of Howard
County, provisions for giving public notice of said
designated areas, provisions for penalties for
violation of this Act, and a severability provision.
Section 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
HOWARD COUNTY, MARYLAND, that Section 8.401 be and is
hereby added to Title 8 "Crimes and Misdemeanors:,
subtitle 4 "Firearms Control" of the Howard County Code
and to read as follows:
8.401 FIREARMS, AIR AND GAS-PROPELLED PISTOLS AND
RIFLES DISCHARGING WITHIN METROPOLITAN
DISTRICT
(A) IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO FIRE OR
DISCHARGE ANY PISTOL, AIR PISTOL, GAS-PROPELLED PISTOL,
RIFLE, AIR RIFLE, GAS-PROPELLED RIFLE OR SHOTGUN WITHIN
THE LIMITS OF THE METROPOLITAN DISTRICT OF THE COUNTY.
(B) THE POLICE DEPARTMENT SHALL POST IN A PUBLICLY
CONSPICUOUS PLACE IN THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE AND ALSO IN
POLICE HEADQUARTERS AND EVERY POLICE STATION AND
SUB-STATION THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY, ACCURATE MAPS
DESIGNATING THE LOCATIONS OF THE BOUNDARY LINES OF THE
METROPOLITAN DISTRICT AS ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO THE
PROVISIONS OF TITLE 18 OF THE HOWARD COUNTY CODE.
(C) NOTHING IN THIS SECTION SHALL HELD TO APPLY TO
OR PROHIBIT THE DISCHARGE OR FIRING OF ANY SUCH FIREARMS,
AIR OR GAS-PROPELLED PISTOLS OR RIFLES ON PERMANENTLY
LOCATED, PROPERLY POSTED AND BONA FIDE TARGET RANGES, THE
LOCATION OF WHICH HAS BEEN FILED WITH THE POLICE
