statutory provisions of the State of Maryland, pertaining
to qualification of voters.
WHEREAS, municipal corporations and the Town of
Williamsport in particular exerts such powers as are
expressly granted or necessarily implied by the
Constitution of the State of Maryland and statutory
provisions granting said powers; and
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the State of Maryland
and applicable statutory provisions pertaining to
qualifications of voters are now dissimilar to those of
the existing Charter of the Town of Williamsport, and it
is considered desirable to amend said Charter to conform
to the applicable constitutional and statutory provisions
governing the qualifications of voters within the State
of Maryland and the Town of Williamsport.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF
THE TOWN OF WILLIAMSPORT, MARYLAND, that Section 25 of
the Town of Williamsport, Maryland Charter, adopted July
8, 1957, and subsequently amended, be and is hereby
amended to read as follows:
Registration, Nominations and Elections
25. Qualification of Voters:
Every person who is (a) a citizen of the United
States, (b) is at least eighteen years of age, (c) has
been a resident of the State of Maryland for at least
thirty (30) days next preceding any Town election, (d) is
a resident within the corporate limits of the Town of
Williamsport as of the time for closing of registration,
next preceding any Town Election, and (e) is registered
in accordance with the provisions of this Charter, is a
qualified voter of the Town.
Every qualified voter of the Town is entitled to
vote at any or all Town elections.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That this Amendment shall
be effective and shall be considered part of the Town
Charter of Williamsport on the 28th day of February,
1973, as provided for in Article 23A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland.
