GOVERNOR MARVIN MANDEL, Dr. Robert Murphy, Director of
the Maryland Academy of Sciences, and J. Cookman Boyd,
Esquire, Chairman of the Board, Maryland Academy of
Sciences, 119 South Howard Street, Baltimore, Maryland,
21201; Dr. Stephen Muller, President of the Johns Hopkins
University, Homewood, Baltimore, Maryland, 21218; and to
Dr. Wilson Elkins, President, University of Maryland,
College Park, Maryland, 20742.

A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

Baltimore—Washington International
Airport - Ambulance Service

FOR the purpose of requesting the Governor to direct the
Secretary of the Department of Transportation to
review the need for a full-time ambulance service at
Baltimore—Washington International Airport.

WHEREAS, Baltimore-Washington International Airport
now utilizes Anne Arundel County ambulance facilities for
its emergency requirements; and

WHEREAS, This poses an undue strain on Anne Arundel
County ambulance services because the heavily populated
northern part of the county does not have sufficient
ambulance service to meet normal emergency calls; and

WHEREAS, Growing population and expanding commercial
and industrial facilities in the County will continue to
add to the need for emergency services; and

WHEREAS, Baltimore—Washington International Airport
attracts thousands of people daily from all over the
world and has plans for expansion; and

WHEREAS, In addition, seriously ill persons are
frequently flown into the airport for transfer to
Baltimore's and Washington's world—renowned medical
centers, and Anne Arundel County ambulances must now be
used for this service; and

WHEREAS, In the case of the tragedy at the airport
