the most, will, in all probability, not receive any; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the State Department of Education be strongly urged to
continue mandatory physical education in the State's
secondary public schools; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent by
the Secretary of State (Under the Great Seal of the State
of Maryland) to Dr. James Sensenbaugh, State
Superintendent of Schools, Maryland State Department of
Education.

(Senate Joint Resolution 21)
A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

Bicycle Paths

FOR the purpose of requesting the State Highway
Administration to consider the provision of bicycle
paths in its plans for roads.

WHEREAS, Bicycles provide an efficient, economical,
and healthful mode of transportation and recreation for
families and for all age groups; and

WHEREAS, It is hazardous for bicyclists to use the
public roadways where such use is permitted; and

WHEREAS, The use of bicycles is increasing to the
point where it is estimated that there are now as many
bicycles in Maryland as there are automobiles; and

WHEREAS, The bicycle paths which have been provided
to date do rot provide sufficient means by which
bicyclists can travel safely between communities without
having to merge with motor vehicles on the public
highways; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the State Highway Administration include bicycle paths in

all future road planning, and consult with and consider

recommendations of concerned local citizens' advisory

groups on bicycle paths during this planning, and be it
further
