A Senate Joint Resolution concerning
Future Utilization of Charlotte Hall [[Academy]] School
FOR the purpose of requesting the Maryland Council for
Higher Education to conduct a feasibility study to
determine the possible future utilization of the
Charlotte Hall [[Academy]] School facility located
in St. Mary's County as a site for possible future
post—secondary educational programs for St. Mary's
and Calvert Counties.
WHEREAS, The present Charlotte Hall [[Academy]]
School in its present program setting has experienced
severe financial hardship and declining enrollments in
recent years; and
WHEREAS, The present facility is situated on a 300
acre site and contains many modern facilities, including
a new classroom building and dining facilities for 500
persons, thus creating a day school capacity for 1200
students; and
WHEREAS, This underutilized facility lies within
close proximity of a potentially rapidly growing economic
and population area in Southern Maryland; and
WHEREAS, The trustees of the [[academy]] school and
the leaders of the Calvert and St. Mary's County area are
committed to the survival of this institution as an
educational institution which celebrates its 200th
Anniversary this year; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the General Assembly requests the Maryland Council for
Higher Education to conduct a feasibility study to
determine the future use of the Charlotte Hall
[[Academy]] School facility for educational programs in
the area; and be it further
