A House Joint Resolution concerning
Fisheries
FOR the purpose of requesting that the Governor of
Maryland invite the Governor of Virginia to join
with him in the appointment of an interstate
committee to develop recommendations for legislative
and regulatory actions governing the catching of
finfish and crustaceans in Chesapeake Bay and its
tributaries and the possession of same.
WHEREAS, The commercial and recreational fishermen
and crabbers of Maryland and Virginia exploit common
stocks of finfish and crustaceans in Chesapeake Bay and
its tributaries; and
WHEREAS, The laws and regulations governing the
catching of finfish and crustaceans in the respective
waters of Maryland and Virginia, and the possession of
same, are frequently at variance with each other or with
the regulations governing the catching of finfish and
crustaceans in the Potomac River; and
WHEREAS, Existing disparities in the laws and
regulations governing the catching of finfish and
crustaceans in Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, and
the possession of same, create serious law enforcement
difficulties, with resulting inconvenience and
unnecessary expense to citizens of Maryland and Virginia;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
