A House Joint Resolution concerning
Alcoholism
FOR the purpose of urging all employers in the State,
with 25 or more employees, to include coverage for
alcoholism rehabilitation in their health insurance
plans for their employees.
WHEREAS, The person with an alcohol problem should
be treated as a sick person and should be provided
adequate and appropriate medical, psychiatric and other
humane rehabilitative treatment services for his illness;
and
WHEREAS, The control of alcoholism requires a major
commitment of effort and resources by both public and
private segments of the State; and
WHEREAS, A response to the problem of alcoholism
must include a continuum of detoxification, inpatient and
outpatient programs, and supportive health, welfare, and
rehabilitation services, coordinated with and integrated
into a comprehensive health plan that covers all of the
State's citizens; and
WHEREAS, Employers in the private sector can help
the employee with an alcohol problem through the
employer's health insurance plan; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
all employers in the State, with 25 or more employees,
