40.

(e) In Calvert County the State's Attorney's
salary is (twelve thousand five hundred dollars
($12,500.00)] ($15,000.00) ANNUALLY. He may, with the
approval of the County Commissioners, appoint an
assistant whose salary shall be set by the Commissioners
[[, but shall not exceed $6,000.00 per annum]].

The assistant State's attorney shall serve at the
pleasure of the State's Attorney and have the same legal
power as the State's Attorney to represent the State
before the grand jury and at the trial of criminal
proceedings.

The County Commissioners shall furnish the State's
Attorney a secretary.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the salary of the Calvert County — State's
Attorney in office on the effective date of this Act, but
the provisions of this Act concerning the salary of the
Calvert County - State's Attorney shall take effect at
the beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1974.

Elected Officials — Convicted of Crimes

FOR the purpose of adding to the Constitution of Maryland
a provision [[removing certain elected officials
from office upon conviction of certain crimes
notwithstanding any appeal which may be taken]]

[[for the suspension without pay of certain elected

officials from office upon conviction of certain

crimes and for the removal of such officials if the

conviction is upheld in a certain appeal; providing
for the appointment of a person to temporarily fill
