consumption, exhaust emissions, and over—crowding of
parking facilities; and
WHEREAS, The bicycle—riding public should be
encouraged to use the streets and highways of Maryland in
a safe and responsible manner; and
WHEREAS, It is estimated that there are no* as many
bicycles in Maryland as there are automobiles; now,
therefore.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 11-1201, 11-1202, 11-1203,
11-1204, 11-1205, 11-1205.1, 11-1206 and 11-1207 of
Article 66—1/2 — Vehicle Laws, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement) be
and they are hereby repealed:
Article 66—1/2 — Vehicle Laws
[11-1201.
(a) It is a misdemeanor for any person to do any
act forbidden or fail to perform any act required in this
part.
(b) The parent of any child and the guardian of
any ward shall not authorize or knowingly permit the
child or ward to violate any of the provisions of this
part.
(c) The provisions of this part applicable to
bicycles apply whenever a bicycle is operated upon any
highway or upon any path set aside for the exclusive use
of bicycles, subject to those exceptions stated herein.
11-1202.
Every person riding a bicycle upon a roadway shall
be granted all of the rights and subject to all of the
duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle by this
subtitle, except as to special regulations in this part
and except as to those provisions of this article which
by their nature can have no application.
11-1203.
(a) A person propelling a bicycle shall not ride
other than upon or astride a permanent and regular seat
attached thereto.
(b) No bicycle shall be used to carry more persons
at one time than the number for which it is designed or
