(c) (1) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall
receive a salary of [$15,000] [[$16,000 plus an allowance
[of $2,500] NOT TO EXCEED $2,500 for personal expenses
incidental to his duties[.], AND TO BE PAID ONLY UPON THE
PRESENTATION OF A VOUCHER]] $17,500. In addition to his
salary, the Sheriff shall receive $145,000 annually to be
used for salaries of deputies and any necessary clerical
assistants; $19,500 of this shall be for three new
positions at $6,500 each and $15,000 for increases in
salary for 14 full—time employees.
(2) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall appoint
not less than 14 deputies, and any clerical assistants
required by the duties of the office. In case of
emergency, the Sheriff may temporarily deputize any
able—bodied citizen to assist him in carrying out the
duties of his office. [The County Council shall furnish
all deputies with automobiles suitable for the
performance of their duties, at no expense to the
deputies.] THE SHERIFF AND ALL DEPUTIES WHOSE DUTIES
REQUIRE THE USE OF AUTOMOBILES SHALL BE FURNISHED AT NO
EXPENSE WITH SUITABLE AUTOMOBILES AND ANY NECESSARY
MAINTENANCE, REPAIRS OR UPKEEP BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL.
(3) The payment of compensation and expenses of the
Sheriff's office shall be made from the general funds of
Anne Arundel County.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the salary of the Anne Arundel County Sheriff
in office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act concerning the salary of the Anne
Arundel County Sheriff shall take effect at the beginning
of the next following term of office.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1974.
