Section 8(a)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1969 Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 8(a) of Article 83 - Sales and
Notices, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969
Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

Article 83 - Sales and Notices

(a) [Five hundred dollars] $1,000 in property,
whether the same consists of money, land or goods, except
that not more than one hundred dollars thereof shall be
in money for each defendant, as well as all money payable
in the nature of insurance, benefit or relief in the
contingency or event of sickness, accident, hurt or death
of any person, shall be exempt from execution or seizure
in satisfaction of debt or claim upon any judgment in any
civil proceedings, except on judgments for breach of
promise to marry or for seduction. The provisions of
this subsection are not subject to waiver.]]

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF

MARYLAND, That Section 11-504(a) of Article - Courts and

Judicial Proceedings of the Annotated Code of Maryland

(1974___Volume) be___and it is__hereby repealed and

re—enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

11-504

(a)_ Except as__provided in subsection (b), the

following are exempt from execution on a judgment:

(1) Subject to the provisions of Section 11—505,

[$500] [[$1,000]] $500 in property to be selected by the
defendant, but not more, than [$100] $200 in money. The

sheriff shall obtain a signed appraisal by a

disinterested appraiser of the property selected by the

defendant. The appraisal shall be returned with the
