The Honorable William S. James was elected President of the Senate
unanimously.

The Honorable George Snyder and the Honorable Edward T. Hall were
appointed to escort the President to the Chair.

The President delivered a short address upon taking the Chair.

Resolved, That the following Desk Officers be, and they are hereby
elected to serve during the Special Legislative Session of 1973:

Assistant Secretary of the Senate—Mr. Henry L. Harrison

Reading Clerk—Mr. Ronald E. Council
Sergeant-at-Arms—Cpt. R. H. McCleaf

Postmistress—Mrs. Anna Sakers

ORDER
By Senator Snyder:

ORDERED, That the several desk officers of the Maryland Senate for
the Special Session of the General Assembly of 1973 shall be paid mileage
for their attendance at the same rate as applies to Legislators from the
city or counties of their respective residence. The payment shall be for
one round-trip from the officer's residence to the City of Annapolis and
return once each week or fraction thereof while the General Assembly is
in session.

Ordered, that the President shall appoint the employees necessary for
the proper transaction of the business of this Special Legislative Session
of 1973, this order to remain in effect until changed or modified by the
Senate.
