responsibility within the Department of Economic and Community Development
for the promotion of tourism in Maryland, to create the Division of Tourist
Development within that Department, replacing the Division of Tourism, and to
provide for the position of the Director of the Division of Tourist Development,
and relating generally to the Department of Economic and Community
Development.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 257E(h) and 260 of Article 41 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title "Governor-Executive and
Administrative Departments," subtitle "25. The Department of Economic and
Community Development," subheadings "In General" and "Division of Economic
Development," respectively, be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

257E.

(h) The exercise or performance of all powers, authority, duties and functions
vested in the Division of Economic Development, Maryland Industrial
Development Financing Authority, the Community Development Administration,
and the Seafood Marketing Authority and Division of Market Development may
be exercised or performed at any time by the Secretary of Economic and
Community Development as set forth in Article 41 of this Code, or elsewhere in
the laws of this State. The Secretary shall create a Division of [[Tourism]]
TOURIST DEVELOPMENT within the Department of Economic and
Community Development to stimulate [the interest of 1 development of the tourist
business in Maryland. THE DIVISION OF [[TOURISM]] TOURIST
DEVELOPMENT SHALL ENCOURAGE DEVELOPMENT OF
RECREATIONAL AREAS AND. FACILITIES AND ENCOURAGE
TOURIST BUSINESS IN THE STATE, MAKING THE PUBLIC AWARE
OF THE STATE'S HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND PROGRESS, AND
GENERALLY ADVERTISE THE STATE AND DISSEMINATE
INFORMATION THEREON. THE SECRETARY OF ECONOMIC AND
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE
GOVERNOR, SHALL APPOINT A DIRECTOR OF THE DIVISION OF
TOURIST DEVELOPMENT, THE POSITION OF_ DIRECTOR SHALL NOT
BE SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 64A OF THIS CODE,
BUT ONCE APPOINTED HE SHALL HOLD OFFICE AT THE
SECRETARY'S PLEASURE. HE MAY BE REMOVED BY THE
SECRETARY OF ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY_ DEVELOPMENT,
WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE GOVERNOR. ANY SUCH REMOVAL
BY THE SECRETARY SHALL BE FINAL AND NOT SUBJECT TO ANY
APPEAL, THE DIRECTOR OF THE DIVISION OF TOURIST
DEVELOPMENT SHALL OPERATE THE DIVISION OF TOURIST
DEVELOPMENT UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE SECRETARY IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBTITLE. THE
DIRECTOR OF THE DIVISION OF TOURIST DEVELOPMENT SHALL
RECEIVE SUCH SALARY AND HAVE SUCH DEPUTIES, ASSISTANTS,
EMPLOYEES, AND PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANTS AS PROVIDED IN
THE STATE BUDGET.

260.

It shall be the duty of the Director and the Commission to:

(1) Investigate and assemble information pertinent to the economic
development, industrial opportunities and economic resources of the State,
including raw materials, power and water resources, transportation facilities,
