Section 232(14) thereof, to change the number of authorized assistant state
supervisors of assessments in the State Department of Assessments and
Taxation, to authorize the appointment by the Department of Commercial and
Industrial Property Assessors, and to specify their tenure and manner of
removal.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 232(3) of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume), title "Revenue and Taxes," subtitle "State
Department of Assessments and Taxation," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, and that new Section 232(15) be and it is hereby
added to the said Article, title, and subtitle of the Code (1969 Replacement
Volume and 1972 Supplement), to follow immediately after Section 232(14), and
all to read as follows:

232.

(3) To supervise the performance of the duties imposed by law, or by the
Director, upon the supervisors of assessments appointed for the various counties
and Baltimore City, and in pursuance thereof said Director is authorized and
directed to officially designate one of its employees as "chief supervisor of
assessments," and [two of its] OTHER employees as assistant State supervisors of
assessments, whose duties shall be, under the control of the Director, to supervise
the performance of the duties of the various supervisors of assessments and
supervise the performance of the duties of various assessors appointed by the
county commissioners of this State. The chief and assistant State supervisors of
assessments shall hold their positions during good behavior, subject only to
removal by the Department, after hearing for incompetency or other cause.

(15) TO APPOINT COMPETENT AND EXPERIENCED PERSONS AS
ASSESSORS OF COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL PROPERTIES IN
THE NUMBERS AUTHORIZED IN THE ANNUAL STATE BUDGET.
THESE ASSESSORS SHALL HOLD THEIR POSITIONS DURING GOOD
BEHAVIOR, SUBJECT ONLY TO REMOVAL BY THE DEPARTMENT,
AFTER A HEARING, FOR INCOMPETENCE OR OTHER CAUSE.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

(Senate Bill 584)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 3-403.1 (b) of Article
66 1/2 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume), title
"Vehicle Laws," subtitle "Certificates of Title and Registration of Vehicles,"
subheading "Part IV. Registration of Vehicles," providing that the Board of
Estimates of Baltimore City shall notify the Motor Vehicle Administration
should the Board determine that a municipal agency shall act as agent of the
Administration for the registration of vehicles in a particular year.
