541 January 3.d 1765 Then came before us the Subscribers two of his Lordships Justices of the Peace for Ann Arundel County James Dick Surviving Executor of the last Will and Testament of William Peele deceased who acknowledged the within Instrument of writing and the Land and premises therein mentioned to be the Estate and Title of William Strachan according to the true Intent and meaning thereof and According ^Conformable^ to the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided W.m Steuart Tho.s Gassaway 1765 April 18 Received of Capt.n William Strachan six shillings and one penny half penny sterling for the use of the Lord Baltimore being the Alienation fine on the within Land by virtue of a Commission from Edward Lloyd Esq.r his said Lordships Agent and Receiver General Benj.a Beall Recorded the 19.th day of April 1765 4 I Cream Brush do swear that I will not for Lucre or Malice delay any Person or Persons applying to me for any Business belonging to the Office I Officiate in, and that I will not directly or Indirectly ask demand take or receive from or Charge to any such Person or Persons to my own use (Except my Salary from my Principal) any Fee or Reward whatsoever for any Service I shall do as Clerk of the said Office And also that in making out the Office Fees I will not wittingly or willingly Charge other or higher Fees than limitted by the Act entitled "An Act for Amending the Staple of Tobacco for preventing frauds in his Majestys Customs, and for the Limitation of Officers Fees" Sworn before me this 18.th day of April 1765 W.m Steuart Recorded the 19.th day of April 1765 Ex.d Know all Men by these Presents that I John Newman of King William County in the Colony of Virginia Executor of the last Will and Testament of George Newman late of the City of Annapolis in the Province of Maryland Merchant deceased Have made Ordained Authorized Constituted and appointed and by these Presents do make Ordain Authorize Constitute and appoint Thomas Brooke Hodgkin of the City of Annapolis aforesaid my true and lawfull Attorney for me and in my Name and to my use and no^ne^ other to ask demand sue for recover and receive all such sum and sums of Money debts and demands whatsoever which now are due or owing unto the Estate of the said George Newman deceased and to sell and dispose of (at his discretion) all the Goods and Merchandize remaining unsold in the Storehouse lately occupied by the said Deceased and which were his property at the time of his Death and in default of payment of the Debts now due to the said Deceaseds Estate and in default of Payment of the Debts that may hereafter become due to me the said John Newman from the Sale of the Goods and Merchandize aforesaid to have use and take all lawfull ways and means in my Name or otherwise for the Recovery thereof and on receipt thereof acquittances and other sufficient discharges for the same for me and in my Name to make seal and deliver and to Do |
