103) and Seals the Day and Year first above written Sealed & Delivered in the Presence of John Jones Seal Rich.d Dorsey E Dorsey On the back of the aforegoing Deed was thus Endorsed Viz.t Received of M.r John Dorsey Son of Caleb the Sum of Twenty two Pounds Ten Shillings Sterling being the Consideration Money within mentioned this 4.th December 1750 Witness John Jones E Dorsey Rich.d Dorsey Came before me the Subscriber one of his Lordships Justices of the Provincial Court the within mentioned John Jones and acknowledged the within Deed as his Act and Deed and the Land and Premisses within mentioned to be the Right and Estate of the within mentioned John Dorsey according to the true intent of the within Deed and the Act of Assembly in that case made and Provided acknowledged before me this fourth Day of December 1750 Geo Steuart Dece.r the 8.th 1750 Received of M.r John Dorsey Son of Caleb five Pence Sterling for his Lordships use (it being the Alienation fine on the within mentioned Ten Acres of Land) By Virtue of a Commission from Benjamin Tasker Esq.r his said Lordships Agent and receiver General Rich.d Dorsey 8 Recorded Decem.r the 8.th 1750 Ex.d Coroluck County in the Province of North Carolina Be it known to all Men that on the twenty Second Day of August in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and fifty Personally appeared before me Henry White Esq.r one of his Majestys Justices of the Peace for the afs.d County Henry Parr Master of Commander of the Tasker Schooner of Maryland and did Solemnly declare and Protest upon Oath on the Holy Evangelist that on Sunday the twenty ninth of July 1750 he set Sail in Company with the Goodwin of Liverpool and Humphrey of London all three from Barbadoes bound for the Capes of Virginia but on their Passage he met with Currents which set him much more to the Westward then he reckoned himself and on the Seventeenth of this Present August at 11 Clock at Night found the afs.d Schooner to stake the Ground at Noon of the same Day he reckon'd himself in the Longitude 72º 30' West from London and by Observation was in Lat 36 30 N.o tho at that time he reckon'd himself at least forty Leagues from the Land but to his great Misfortune found it otherways the said Deponent further Declareth that soon after his being on Shore a Violent Gale ensued which caused a great Sea and forc'd the said Schooner well on upon the Shore and at the same time Bulged and filled and that on the Eighteenth and Nineteenth of the same Month it blew quite a Storm of Wind E and ESE which with the great Sea that then Run hinder'd his getting to any Magistrate to make a Protest (being on a low Island of Sand) 'till this 22.d Inst but that he and his people all that time did their utmost to save what they could of the Rigging and Cargo for the Benefit of the Owners or (Insurers) |
