104) Insurers of the said Schooner the afs.d Deponent further declares that there was no Default in him or his Company but that the aforesaid Accident happen'd through the Cause of Various Currents which must have set them further to the Westward then they reckon'd themselves and so Caused the afs.d Misfortune to him & the other two likewise Henry Parr 1750 Protested and Sworn to the above before me Henry White Esq.r one of his Majestys Justices of the Peace for the County of Coroluck in the Province of North Carolina this twenty Second Day of August given under my Hand and Seal the Day and Date abovementioned Henry White Witness Stephen Williams William Stevenson Rich.d Edwards Mate Thomas Tully Carpenter of the Schooner do declare upon Oath that what the afs.d Henry Parr mentioned on the other side and Protested to be true As Witness our Hands this twenty third Day of August One Thousand Seven hundred and fifty Richard Edwards Tho.s Tilley Sworn before me Henry White the above Witnesses to the aforesaid Protest this 23.d day of August 1750 Henry White On the Back of the aforegoing Affidavits and Protest was thus written Viz.t Cap.t Henry Parr's Protest Registered in Town Book N.o B P Sam Boush j.r Town Clk Virginia Norfolk Borough Before me Durham Hall Esq.r Mayor of the said Borough in Person appeared Henry Parr Master of the Schooner Tascar of Maryland also Richard Edwards Mate and Thomas Tilley Carpenter belonging to said Schooner who being Solemnly Sworn declared Protested and said that they Sailed from Barbadoes on Sunday the 29.th day of July last past in Company with the Ship Goodwin of Liverpool and Ship Humphry of London all bound for the Capes of Virginia and that on their Passage they met with Currents that set them much more to the Westward than they reckon'd themselves and that on the 17.th of August last past at Eleven oClock at Night the said Schooner struck the Ground to the Southward of Coroluck and these Deponents further Declare that at Noon of the afs.d 17.th of August they reckoned themselves in the Long 72 30" West from London and by an Observation was in Latt 36 30 N.o and that they also further Declare that soon after their being on Shore a Violent Gale ensued which caused a Great Sea and forced the said Schooner well on the Shore and at the same time bulged and filled her and that on the 18.th & 19.th of the same Month it blew quite a Storm at E and ESE which with the great Sea that then Run (hindered) |
