and all other certificated personnel. He shall assign them to their
positions in the schools, transfer them as the needs of the schools
require, recommend them for promotion, suspend them for cause, and
recommend them for dismissal in accordance with the provisions in
Section 114 of this article.

63. Professional improvement of teachers.

The county superintendent of schools shall cause to be developed a
program of inservice training for all public school personnel; he
shall advise teachers as to their further study and professional im-
provement.

The county superintendent of schools may in lieu of inservice
training require attendance at an institution of higher education for
the purpose of future certification and professional improvement.

64. Visiting schools and advising with principals, etc.

The county superintendent of schools and his professional
assistants shall visit the schools, observe the management and in-
struction, and give suggestions for the improvement of the same.
They shall advise with principals and teachers, and shall endeavor
in every way to awaken public interest and to improve educational
conditions within the counties.

65.    Evaluation of the Educational Program.

The county superintendent of schools shall in accordance with the
rules and regulations of the State Board of Education cause an
evaluation to be made periodically of the program of instruction in
the public schools of the county and shall report his findings and
recommendations to the county board of education.

66.    Curriculum Guides and Courses of Study.

The county superintendent of schools shall cause to be prepared
curriculum guides, courses of study, resource material, and other
teaching aids and shall recommend the same for adoption by the
county board of education.

67.    List of textbooks, materials, etc.

The county superintendent of schools shall prepare lists of such
textbooks, supplementary readers, materials of instruction, visual
and auditory aids, stationery and school supplies, school furniture,
equipment, and apparatus, as are needed by the schools, and shall
recommend the purchase and distribution of the same by the county
board of education.

68.    Employment of teachers and other personnel.

(a) Nominations; recommending removal; professional, clerical,
etc.; assistance; compensation.
The county superintendent of
schools, acting under the rules and regulations of the county board of
education, shall be responsible for the administration of the office
of the county superintendent of schools. He shall nominate, for
appointment by the county board of education, all the professional
assistants of the office and may recommend their removal for im-
