custody regardless of which judge or judges may from time to time
preside in the court; the clerks] . The Clerk and the Deputy Clerk
shall perform such other duties as shall be properly assigned to them
by the [judges] Chief Judge of the People's Court, and they shall
receive such salary as shall be fixed by the County Commissioners
[of said county; the said clerks before entering upon their duties
shall each give bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty of
Twenty-five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) with corporate sureties
satisfactory to the said County Commissioners, the premium of
said bonds to be paid by the County Commissioners of Prince
George's County.] of Prince George's County in equal monthly in-
stallments. The Clerk before entering upon his duties shall give
bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty of fifty thousand dollars
($50,000.00) and the said Deputy Clerk before entering upon his
duties shall give bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty of
twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000.00). Each of said bonds shall
be for the full five-year term of office and shall have corporate sure-
ties satisfactory to the County Commissioners of Prince George's
County, and the premium of said bonds shall be paid by the said
County Commissioners.
The County Commissioners of Prince
George's County shall provide such additional clerical help and per-
sonnel as may be necessary to carry out the administrative work of
said [court.] Court and its branches at salaries to be fixed by said
County Commissioners.
All clerical help and personnel, with the
exception of the [three clerks, the deputy clerk for the committing
magistrates,] Clerk, the Deputy Clerk, the Deputy Clerks for the
Committing Magistrates,
and the Justices of the Peace, are to be
employed under and paid in accordance with the merit system regu-
lations effective in Prince George's County. [The Chief Judge of
the People's Court shall be considered the department head with
respect to the People's Court of Prince George's County.]

Notwithstanding any other provision of this subsection, the clerks
of the branches of the People's Court shall perform their duties and
maintain their offices where directed by the Chief Judge and the
Chief Judge of the People's Court shall be considered the Depart-
ment Head with respect to the People's Court of Prince George's
County.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 277
(House Bill 289)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 534H
(C) (C)3. and 534(J)H(J) of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1967 Replacement Volume and 1968 Supplement), title
"Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Crimes and Punishments,"
subheading "Sabbath Breaking," to raise the number of persons
allowed to be employed under this section from three to ten SIX
persons and to eliminate the provisions dealing with second and
third convictions.
