of the Acts of 1968, extending the time during which the Maryland
Academy of Sciences may present certain evidence to the Board
of Public Works with regard to the funding of a science center.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 6 of Chapter 708 of the Acts of 1965, as last amended
by Chapter 145 of the Acts of 1968, be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

6.

The payment of any funds under the provisions of this Act for
the purpose of aiding in the construction of a Science Center for the
Maryland Academy of Sciences, shall be contingent upon the pro-
vision by Maryland Academy of Sciences of at least an equal and
matching fund for this project from private and other public sources.
The said Maryland Academy of Sciences shall have until June 1,
[1969] 1970, to present evidence satisfactory to the Board of Public
Works that it has raised at least this equal and matching fund for
the purpose of aiding in the construction of a Science Center for the
Maryland Academy of Sciences, and that a site for the Science Center
which is mutually suitable to the Board of Public Works and to the
Maryland Academy of Sciences has been provided by Baltimore City
or any other political subdivision. Upon receiving from the Board of
Public Works a certification of such suitable evidence on or before
June 1, [1969] 1970, the Treasurer of the State is hereby authorized,
empowered and directed to proceed to spend the proceeds of said
loan agreeably to the other provisions of this Act. If such satisfac-
tory evidence of the raising of at least an equal and matching fund
for this project is not presented to the Board of Public Works on or
before June 1, [1969] 1970, no funds under the provisions of this
Act shall thereafter be paid over to or expended for the purpose of
aiding in the construction of a Science Center for the Maryland
Academy of Sciences.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby de-
clared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety and having been passed
by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of all the members
elected to each of the two houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (1)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Supple-
ment and 1968 Replacement Volume), title "Attorneys at Law and
Attorneys in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," to increase the
salary and expense allowance for the State's Attorney for Garrett
County.
