title "Fees of Officers," subtitle "Bailiffs and Criers," to provide
for the appointment and salary of court deputies in Charles County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 11 (c) of Article 36 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1968 Supplement), title "Fees of Officers," subtitle "Bailiffs and
Criers," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

11.

(c) In Charles County, in addition to bailiffs and criers as pro-
vided in subsection (a) above, the judge of the 7th Judicial Circuit
Court residing in Charles County may appoint not more than two
court deputies to perform such duties [and receive such salary] as
the Court may direct [not to exceed two hundred dollars ($200.00)
per month,] and shall receive such salary as may, from time to time,
be set by the County Commissioners for Charles County after consul-
tation with the court, but not less than two hundred dollars ($200.00)
per month,
which salary shall be paid by the County Commissioners
for Charles County.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 49
(House Bill 582)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (i) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement
Volume), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," to
increase the salary of the Sheriff of Dorchester County and to
provide for the appointment of a jail matron.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(i) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensa-
tion and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

37.

(i) The Sheriff of Dorchester County shall receive an annual
salary of [$5,200] $7,700 to be paid monthly, and be allowed the
actual cost of the maintenance of automobiles and the county jail.
He shall appoint a chief deputy sheriff and one assistant deputy
sheriff who shall be paid such compensation as the County Commis-
sioners may prescribe. The Sheriff may appoint such other deputies
as may be approved by County Commissioners and who shall .be
compensated as may be prescribed by the County Commissioners.
