1762                            JOINT RESOLUTIONS

Whereas, Maryland is a State of varied attractions and gives
to its visitors the scenic beauty of its rolling fields, its wooded land,
its broad rivers, its traveled bays, its gentle mountains and its in-
viting valleys, its bright beaches and the limitless horizon of its
ocean, and

Whereas, Visitors come to this microcosm of the United States
of America to enjoy the many recreations it offers to the tourist,
fisherman, the hunter, the horselover, the yachtsman, the anti-
quarian, the historian, and

Whereas, In an effort to promote tourism within our State and
add to the pleasure of our visitors in this land of pleasant living, it
would be advantageous for Maryland to establish a new dimension
of hospitality by encouraging the revival and recognition of the
justly famous cuisine of Maryland; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the General Assembly of Maryland call on the
Governor of Maryland to appoint a commission of seven persons who
shall serve without pay to recommend to the Department of Eco-
nomic Development, Tourist Development and Publicity Division, the
methods by which the best Maryland recipes can be selected and
standardized; the method of examination by which a person can re-
ceive the "Cordon Orange et Noir" and achieve the personal ac-
creditation of "Maryland Chef," and the circumstances under which
a restaurant can advertise itself as offering famous Maryland dishes
prepared by an accredited Maryland Chef, and

Be it further resolved, That the Commission shall report its con-
clusions and recommendations as a result of the investigation and
study to the General Assembly at its 1970 Session; and

Be it further resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to
the Honorable Marvin Mandel, Governor of Maryland.

(House Joint Resolution 60)

House Joint Resolution requesting the Board of Trustees of the State
Colleges to consider establishing four-year nursing courses at
Towson State and Morgan State Colleges.

Whereas, The University of Maryland is the only educational
institution in the State offering a four-year nursing course leading
to a bachelor's degree; and

Whereas, The practice of medicine is becoming increasingly com-
plex and the need for well-trained and expertly educated medical
professionals is extremely acute; and

Whereas, Maryland ranks 33rd among the States in the number
of registered nurses with 277 for every 100,000 residents, while the
national average is 313; and
