MARVIN MANDEL, Governor                      1753

Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to Herbert B.
Cahan, Chairman of the Maryland Educational-Cultural Broadcast-
ing Commission, and Frederick Breitenfeld, Executive Director of
the Commission.

Approved May 2, 1969.

No. 23
(House Joint Resolution 6)

House Joint Resolution requesting the Department of Forests and
Parks to study the advisability of acquiring the former Tolchester
Amusement Park to develop for recreational and tourism purposes.

Whereas, For many years Tolchester Amusement Park was one
of the prime recreational areas of the Upper Eastern Shore and
serviced not only the citizens of this region, but also attracted many
persons from throughout the State and neighboring states; and

Whereas, The park has been abandoned; therefore there now
exists in this area a serious need for recreational facilities; and

Whereas, It appears that the State could acquire ownership of
this property for a reasonable price at this time, but if acquisition
is not made in the near future, the price of this property will in-
crease to a great extent; and

Whereas, This property should be given prime consideration for
development as a State facility since the name "Tolchester" is known
throughout the State and would attract many persons to the park,
it would be one of the few State facilities with access to the Chesa-
peake Bay, and it would provide a State park in an area which
has none at this time; and

Whereas, Consideration should be given to the development of
lodging facilities in the park to serve the needs of visitors to Wash-
ington College, hunters, and tourists enjoying the summer recrea-
tional attractions of the area, since at this time there are not
sufficient lodging facilities in the area to serve the needs of these
people; therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Depart-
ment of Forests and Parks is requested to study the advisability of
acquiring the former Tolchester Amusement Park to be developed
for recreational and tourism purposes and to report the results of
their study to the Legislative Council not later than August, 1969;
and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the Director
of the Department of Forests and Parks, and the Chairman and
members of the Commission on Forests and Parks.

Approved May 2, 1969.
