1752                            JOINT RESOLUTIONS

No. 21
(House Joint Resolution 4)

House Joint Resolution urging the Department of Chesapeake Bay
Affairs actively to seek Federal funds for the local share of shore
erosion control projects.

Whereas, The State of Maryland is attempting to prevent shore
erosion and has instituted programs to accomplish this result; and

Whereas, Although the actual obligations to date have been
negligible, the total cost to the State could possibly amount to great
sums; and

Whereas, There is anticipated in the planned programs some
sharing of funds on a local basis; and

Whereas, Some areas of the State in the greatest need for con-
struction of shore erosion control works have such a low income level
that they will be unable to provide the local share of the cost of such
construction; and

Whereas, Efforts must be made, therefore, to obtain Federal
financial assistance on behalf of such areas; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Depart-
ment of Chesapeake Bay Affairs be urged to actively seek Federal
funds for the local share of shore erosion control projects; and be it
further

Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the Department
of Chesapeake Bay Affairs and to the Maryland Representatives in
the United States Congress.

(House Joint Resolution 5)

House Joint Resolution requesting the Maryland Educational Tele-
vision system to formulate a policy of using this system for edu-
cating its viewers as to the recreational and historical attractions
of Maryland.

Whereas, one of the most important aspects of successful tourism
promotion in a state is that the citizens of that state be aware of
the many tourist attractions therein; and

Whereas, A television system would be the perfect vehicle to edu-
cate Maryland citizens concerning the tourist attractions in this
State; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Mary-
land Educational Television system is requested to formulate a policy
of using this system for educating its viewers as to the recreational
and historical attractions in Maryland; and be it further
