AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 294 (c)
of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Supple-
ment), title "Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Operation of Vehicles
Upon Highways," to remove the restriction that exhaust pipes
shall not be directed to the side and clarifying how mufflers and
exhaust pipes shall be constructed.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 294(c) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1968 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Op-
eration of Vehicles Upon Highways," be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

294.

(c) All mufflers and exhaust pipes carrying exhaust gases from
the motor shall be [constructed] or OF leak-proof metal [tubing] con-
struction, [and shall be erected parallel to the ground and vehicle,
or vertical, and, if vertical, the exhaust from such pipes shall not
be directed to the side of the vehicles.] It shall be unlawful for any
person to use on the exhaust or "tail pipe" of a motor vehicle any
extension or other device to cause excessive or unusual noise.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.
