CHAPTER 509
(House Bill 989)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 311 of
Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement
Volume), title "Health," subtitle "State Board of Barber Exam-
iners," increasing the membership of the Board of Barber Exam-
iners, and providing for their terms and appointments.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 311 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1965 Replacement Volume), title "Health," subtitle "State Board
of Barber Examiners," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

311.

The Governor shall appoint a Board of Barber Examiners for the
State of Maryland. The Board shall consist of [three] five members
[each] two of whom shall serve for a term of two years, two of
whom shall serve for a term of three years, and one of whom shall
serve for a term of five years
from the date when [his] their
appointments [shall] take effect, ('except in the case of an appoint-
ment to fill a vacancy,). No person shall be eligible to appointment as
a member of said Board unless he has been continuously for five
years last past engaged in the occupation of a barber within this
State.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act shall
be construed or applied to change or transfer with the terms of the
members of the Board of Barber Examiners who are in office on the
effective date of this Act, for the remainder of the terms in which
they then are serving. As of the effective date of this Act, the Gov-
ernor shall appoint two additional members of the Board, and as of
the same time, he shall designate the tenure of each of the five mem-
bers of the Board according to the respective tenure provided herein-
above in this Act.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 510
(House Bill 1025)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 108(8)
of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Trial Magis-
trates System," increasing the salaries of trial magistrates and
associate magistrates.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
