Commissioners shall be paid by the Treasurer of the County actual
traveling and other expenses incurred in the conduct of his duties
not to exceed seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) per year for each
commissioner.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act affects
the election, tenure, powers, duties, or compensation of any member
of the Board of County Commissioners of Harford County who is in
office on the effective date of this Act, for the remainder of his then
term of office. The provisions of this Act concerning the several
Commissioner districts of Harford County shall be effective for the
primary and general elections in the year 1970, for the election of
persons to the offices of County Commissioners of Harford County;
and the provisions of this Act concerning the compensation of mem-
bers of the Board of County Commissioners of Harford County shall
take effect as of the beginning of the term of office of the several
County Commissioners who are elected thereto at the regular election
in November 1970.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 446
(Senate Bill 447)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 98B (9)
(a) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Supple-
ment), title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Trial Magistrates
System," to increase the number of JUSTICES OF THE PEACE
AND DEPUTY committing magistrates in Anne Arundel County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 98B (9) (a) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1968 Supplement), title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle
"Trial Magistrates System," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

98B.

(9) (a) The Governor, by and with the advice of the Senate, shall
appoint [ten (10)] eleven (11) justices of the peace in Anne Arundel
County, [eight] nine of whom shall be designated committing magis-
trates and two THREE of whom shall be designated deputy commit-
ting magistrates. Where practicable, they shall be from different
geographical areas of the county so as to best serve the needs of all
the county. They shall have throughout the county all the powers
and jurisdiction vested by law in justices of the peace other than
trial magistrates and substitute trial magistrates.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.
