or about the month of December in the year of or Lord 1694, three pair of Womens shoes, one book a prcell of Sealing wax & red lead being the goods of Ellis Coleman of this County of the value of twenty shillings — Sterl. the same did thieve, Steal and carry away Contrary to the Peace of Our Sovereign Lord the King & agt the statute in that Case made & Provided // Dent Clk of prsentmts The Indictmt being read to which the Dft pleaded not guilty & for Tryall put herself on ye Country – Whereupon Comand was given To the Sheriff to bring here twelve good & Lawfull men of his Balywick that the matter in hand might be the better understood a List or pannel ~ whereof are returned as followeth (viz) Edward Green, Geo Goddard, ffra Joyce, James Langrell, James Atkinson, Wm Lawrence, Robt Smith, Wm Owens, Adam Heatch, Archibald Smith, John Blizard, & Tho. Cary. 12 who being duely Sumoned returned & Sworn upon ye holy Evangelists – having heard ye Evid & totall proceedings receivs their Charge, and are Sent forth & this day to Witt the day afd the Same Jury afd being returned to the Barr in Court & being each calld are all Agreed of their Verdict the Plt & Dft being likewise Calld, the Verdict is read as followeth (viz) Wee of the Jury find that Anne Ryce is guilty according to the Bill of Indictmt Edward Green foreman — Which Verdict afd this Court Orders to be entered, And further Orders that Sd Anne Ryce pay four fold with Cost &ca. Order the sd Anne give Security for behaviour & Cost. Courts opinion is that Corporal punishmt Should be Omitted // Whereupon Came the sd Anne & her Security mr Scarbrough And the sd Anne did acknowledge herself to be indebted unto our Soveraign Lord the King the Sum of Six pounds Sterling money & the sd Scarbrough in the Sum of three pounds like money afd all due to be leavied on their goods & Chattels Lands & Tennemts for the sd Kings use &a The Condicon of which Recognizance is Such that if the sd Anne Rice be of the good behaviour & Abearance to all his Maties liege People of this Province dureing this Courts pleasure & pay Cost of Sute &ca That then this Obligation to be void & of none effect otherwayes to be & remaine in full power force & Vertue – – – – – –
This day the Grand Jury brought in these following prsentments Wee of the Grand Jury do prsent Robt Tyer for not clearing the wayes according to Order. Samuel Showell Informer Wee of the Grand Jury doe prsent Wm Noble, Walter Taylor, Thomas Philips, Jno Broughton & Saml Marchmt for their delinquency in not clearing the high Wayes. Stephen Costin Informer Wee of the Grand Jury doe prsent Samuel ffluellin, Tho ffarnall John James, Edwf Ross, Wm Leyton, Jno Wilson, Thomas Wilson John Meclaster, Informer Evid Sam Heyden & Hanss Lawson – it being for Stopping the Kings high wayes. Wee of the Grand Jury do prsent Jno Upshott for Cohabiting with Mary Thomas the Wife of Jno Thomas. mr ffra Jenckins Informer
