And make known that what Officer of Officers Seaman or Seamen as aforesd are (after publication hereof) found travelling without passes as aforesd Shall be lyable to be taken up and Seized as Run awayes & pay to the parties So takeing them up, according to the directions of the Law for Runaway Servants &a. And ffor as much as Severall Orders and Ordinances of Assembly have been heretofore issued to the Vestryes of the respective Parishes within this Province touching the Collection and disposal of the fourty pound per poll (viz) that where the Same was left uncollected last year Should be Collected this year, and that in Parishes where Churches are built and no Minister inducted the Same Should be Sold for Bills of Exchca or ready goods. This is to remind an order all Such - Vestryes So concernd that they duely comply with and observe ye aforesd Severall Orders & Ordinances, being now well assured yt Tobacco is and will be a good Comodity this year. And I doe hereby Order & Comand that the sd several Vestryes, doe likewise take Care and Order that a Certain Act of Assembly of this Province made in May last Entituled and Act restraining the frequent Assemblyng of Negroes within this Province be Published and Read in their Severall & respective Parish Churches four times every year pursuant to the directions of the Said Act. And that all Negroes wandering or going abroad (otherwise then as in the sd Act is directed) be taken up and punished accordingly. And to the end due notice hereof may be given, I doe further Comand that the Severall Sheriffs of the Province proclaime this in all Churches, Chappels, and other Publick meetings within their respective Counties, to which all Persons – Concernd are to yield, due & ready obedience, as they and every of them will answer the contrary at their perill. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ By his Excncy the Governr &ca January the 25th . 1695 Ordered that all Hue & Cryes (for the future) issued or Sent after Runaways & others be directed to be Sent forward to the Port of Annapolis, And that a Speedy accot be likewise from all parts Sent thither, where any Run away Servants or Negroes are taken up & kept in Custody, and ye Masters of Such Servants or Negroes undiscovered And that the sheriffs of ye Province publish this order in all places of publick meeting wthin their respective Counties.
