The Ralph to answer to our Soveraign Lord the King &ca. And that Said Mary give Security for her sd fine & fees, according to Act of Assembly &ca. Whereupon Came sd Mary with her Security Richard Plunkett, and the Said Mary & Richard did by way of Recognizance, acknowledge them Selves to owe & be indebted unto our Soveraign Lord King William the third the Sum of one thousand pounds of tobacco joyntly & Severally due to be leavied on their goods & Chattels Lands & Tennements for his Maties use &ca. The Condicon of which Recognizance is Such that if the bound Mary ffillpott doe well & truely pay unto our Said Soveraign Lord &ca the just Sum of four hundred pounds of tobacco with all Officers fees & likewise prosecute the sd Ralph Holston at our next County Court to be held at Deviding Creed the 2d Tuesday of June next then the Recognizance to be void &ca.
Maryland Ss // By his Exncy ye Capt Genrll a Proclamacon Whereas divers complaints have (at Sundry times) been made unto me by Severall Masters & Comanders of Shipps, how that their Officers and Seamen are frequently enticed & led away for Pennsilvania and other adjacent Collonies, as also run themselves into many inconveniences through means of persons entertaining them and receiving them into their houses at all time and times, whereby is occasioned not only very great neglect & much loss & damage to the Masters & Owners of Such Shipps but also exceeding detriment to his Maties Royall Navy for want of Such Seamen (So enticed and led away ) returning for England, besides publick reflections and Scandall which may be brought upon the Governmt for the Same if not timely prevented . To remedy there fore (for the future) Such an apparent & growing evil, I have thought fitt, to publish make known and Order, And I doe hereby accordingly proclaime and Comand, that no person whatsoever Military or Civil within this Province having a Plantation or other wise keeping house, doe hereafter any wayes Entertain harbour or receive into his her or their house or houses any Officer or Officers, Seaman or Seamen belonging to any Shipp or other Vessel tradeing within this Province, Unless Such Officer or Officers, Seaman or Seamen Shall produce a good & authentic pass from under my hand or the hand and Seal of the Master of Such Shipp or Vessel to wch they belong, wherein shall be expressed the Masters real Name or Names, and that then they be no longer detained or kept or[entertained] then the busness they are Sent upon shall require, under penalty of the party or parties found offending contrary to the true intent and meaning of this Proclamation , being proceeded agt according to the utmost Severity of the Law, And I doe hereby likewise Notifie
